These blankets are named for Tolkien words. Emyn means "hills" and Bruinen means "loud water." Emyn Bruinen was a top contender in my mind for my son's name, but my husband sadly vetoed it. Emyn, the green blanket, is my favorite for snuggling with my baby boy, and my daughter sleeps with Bruinen, the purple one, every night. The cotton-blend yarn is nice and cool, but also cozy, and the earthy colors are very pleasing to the eye. It's a great gift for new parents who like traditional crocheted items, but also modern and interesting enough for those with less-traditional taste.
The skill level for this pattern is Easy. If you have basic knowledge of crochet stitches and you're ready to advance out of Beginner, this is a good pattern for you. For anybody beyond that, this will be a fun project that can easily be worked on while watching Lord of the Rings for the 50th time.
It's a perfect size for a baby as they grow, but can also be used as a quick warmer for adults; I throw it around my shoulders pretty often, and I've caught my husband with it spread over his legs on the couch several times.
Note that this is for the pattern only.
